Three counties in a region where certain towns are as well known outside of France as inside. If we talk about Mont-Saint-Michel, Deauville... As well as Granville, Caen, or Bagnolles de l'Orne. Welcome to Lower Normandy.
Born in the Paris region, Pascal Morsellino migrated west gradually. First stop in Rouen, then in 2004, the aquisition of INTER-HOTEL Altos in Avranches, just next to Mont-Saint-Michel: "I was looking for a hotel on the coast and I found the perfect spot. It's a well preserved region that is truly magnificent.
I like everything here: Mont Saint Michel, which is of course a magic place, classed as a World Heritage Monument by UNESCO, as is the bay of Mont Saint Michel, but don't forget the coastal landscapes, the seafronts, the beaches, the dunes... It's a perfect place to recharge. Our coastline is protected from construction, with highly protected fauna and flora: Saint Malo, Cancale, Mont Saint Michel, Granville... They are still same places as 30 years ago. The highway was only built 5 years ago. And 20 kilometers out to see are the channel islands (Jersey, Guernsey…) whichmake a great day trip." As well as the Chausey archipelego, just 10 kilometers off the coast.

INTER-HOTEL has 8 hotels in the Lower-Normandy region. Two in the channel region "La Manche": the INTER-HOTELs Altos and Cositel in Coutances, North of Granville. Two hotels in the Orne region (in Argentan and Bagnoles de l’Orne) and 4 hotels in Calvados (one in Deauville and three in the area of Caen).
La Manche is the ever popular Mont-Saint-Michel with a million visitors a year, its coastal areas and family attractions. "There are lots of theme parks and the zoo at Champrepus (near Avranches), a reptile park, an animal park called Alligator Bay and the "Cité de la Mer" in Cherbourg". North of Avranches, the town of Coutances, historic capital of Cotentin, is built on a hill overlooking the bocage. The town and its magnificent 13th century cathedral are worth a visit. Don't forget the Saint-Nicolas and Saint-Pierre churches.
From the next county (Calvados), who hasn't heard of Deauville and Caen ?
The American Film Festival, and a famous film by Claude Lelouch have immortalised the first. Its beaches and boardwalk are known around the world. The second has had a number of lives: the home of Guillaume the Conqueror has a unique heritage (including the famous arsenal of Caen) up to the second world war, when it was heavily bombed and destroyed. Caen is also located close to the D- Day landing beaches of 6 June 1944. The Memorial of Caen is a visit you should not miss.. The town "of a thousand bells" has lots of treasures: the castle, the abbeys, the churches and the museums. But Caen also has lots of wide open spaces for nature lovers, including the famous "hill of birds".

A visit to the Lower Normandy region would not be complete without a stop in the Orne. In Argentan first, where you can visit the "Maison des Dentelles". One of the most famous forteresses of Normandy in the Middle Ages is today a town which is a great place to stay, and which attracts fisherman to its lake. Numerous parks attract nature lovers.
Another well known town is Bagnoles de l'Orne, the only thermal town of north west France. A walk around the Belle Epoque district, built at the end of the 19th century, will show you a number of magnificent villas. After the first world war, the attraction of Bagnoles de l'Orne as a tourist destination was confirmed, with the growth in spa treatments.
The Lower Normandy region is a great destination for tourism and leisure activities, and is very popular with sports enthousiasts. The coastline is peaceful.
"The possibilities for hiking are numerous and the trails are well marked adds Pascal Morsellino. Windsurfing, land surfing and sailing, as well as ballooning and even parachute jumping for the bravest, are available in Lower Normandy. You must come and visit!".
