Alain Bellefoy runs the Eric Hôtel, a contemporary hotel situated in Dole, in the Jura region, for the last 7 years. After having travelled around the world for a number of years, he came back to his birthplace to open an hotel.

All along the way, you can enjoy breathtaking landscapes, alternating between forests and valleys of the Jura.
In the south of Dole, the town of Lons le Saunier benefits from its proximity to Switzerland and to the Regional Park of the Vosges. The officer, poet and author of «La Marseillaise», Rouget de Lisle, comes from this town. But Lons le Saunier is even more well known for the water well "Ledonia", where the name of the inhabitants originates (the Ledoniens), and which is a salt water well. Thermal cures with salt water are available here. It's the ideal place for a well-being break in Franche-Comté.
The region has earth that is extremely rich, especially in rock salt, which has given rise to a number of salt works, including the one at Lons le Saunier, but also at Arc-en Senans. This has become, over the years an exceptional architectural site, as a result of being exploited over a long period of time. The buildings are classed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.
In the county of Doubs is the town of Besançon who's landmark citadel was built in the 17th century by the famous architect Vauban. It's the most visited site in the region of Franche-Comté. Don't miss the zoo, with its insect section, and a special area for nocturnal mammals.
Besançon is also famous for it quality of life and open parks. It has been awarded the title of "First "green" town of France" on a number of occasions. You can take various boat trips on the river.

Montbéliard, famous for it soil, has a very special style of architecture, directly inspired by the strong german influence experienced by the town. The castle of the Dukes of Wurtemberg dominates the town and inspires local pride. Take a trip to the park "Pré de la Rose" and get lost in the maze.

With around 42% covered in woodland, Franche-Comté offers a setting that's suitable for a number of open air sporting activities: hiking, biking, canoe-kayak or pot-holing in the caves at Poudrey, the biggest in France, where a sound and light show is available at the end of the itinerary. Fly fishing, is a sport practised by the locals and tourists.
